Sports day brings new energy in the hearts and minds of the students. This day is marked with great joy and discovering the inner talent of a student in field of sports. A sound mind resides in a sound body. Sports and games help in the large muscle coordination resulting in physical fitness apart from inculcating sportsmanship, leadership, unity, competitive spirit among the students.

The much awaited Annual Sports Day was held on Friday, 1st March 2019, with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. Mr N D Jayaram, District Volleyball Coach, Hassan was the chief guest for the day and the program was preceded over by Rev Fr Joseph Dsouza SJ, Secretary, Hassan Jesuit Educational Society. The chief guest hoisted the flag signalling the start of the Sports Meet.

"March Past is all about synchronisation and team work, marching in contingent demands alertness and unspoken coordination". The drum beats rolled, the band stroked and high pitched voice issued a command. The synchronised swing of arms and the sound of thudding feet stirred something within us. Besides being spectacular there was something inexplicably inspiring about the march past. Each class actively participated in the march and the themes given to them were adhered to.

An Olympic lamp was lit to ignite the passion of sports spirit, knowledge and life. The Director of SJC Hassan, Rev. Fr. Roshan David Pereira SJ administered the oath taking ceremony to show our determination and commitment. Ms Kavya and team of final year BCom invoked the blessings of the almighty through a prayer song. Red carpet welcome was extended to the dignitaries by Ms Spoorty, a student of 2nd Year BBA.

Chief Guest, Mr N D Jayaram then addressed the gathering by saying that the present generation have a lot of opportunities in the field of sports and they need to utilise completely. He gave an example of Para Olympic winner Mr Giresh and advised the students to try and become international players. He was very happy to witness the march past as each class marched on a particular theme and said that this kind of March past was one of a kind.

Mr Bharath, The Physical Director of SJC Hassan received felicitation from the President of the function Rev Fr Joseph D Souza on account of being selected as a team manager for Mysore University and Ms Rakshitha, A student of First B.Com, received felicitation from the Chief Guest Mr N D Jayaram for being qualified for the nationals for women's hand ball team. Two pigeons were released in the air as a symbol of peace.

The President, Rev Fr. Joseph's Dsouza then took turn to address the gathering and said that sports plays an important role in the development of student's mind and physic. He expressed his excitement for the wonderful march that was conducted and wished the participants good luck for the upcoming events.

The formal programme came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Keerthi, a student of First Year B.com.

Various events such as cricket, football, throw ball, volleyball, shuttle badminton, basketball, 100m race, 200m race, 400m race, 800m race, 4*100m relay, shot put, javelin and long jump were conducted during the day.
