"Good leaders are trailblazers, making path for others to follow. Great leaders, however inspire their people to reach higher, dream bigger and achieve goals". A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step. Students of today are the leaders and torch bearers of tomorrow, they as a generation are the most empowered and most likely generation to save the earth.

43 students were elected to be the torch bearers of St Joseph's College on 10.07.2018. In order to imbibe the leadership qualities among the elected students council, a leadership camp was organised on 14.07.2018. The camp was conducted by two prominent people, one being Rev. Fr. Marcel Pinto, The Director of CMSSS (Chickmangalore Social Service) and the second person was Rev. Fr. Francis Fernandes SJ.

First session was conducted by Rev. Fr. Marcel Pinto. Several activities were conducted by him who brought out all the qualities of a leader. In the first activity conducted the students were divided into four groups. Each team had to pen down qualities of a leader and had to stick it on chairs which were kept aside for discussion at the end.

The second activity was one in which, a member from each team was called forward to build blocks out of the wooden pieces which were given to them, the challenge here was to build the block with the non-dominant hand. How many pieces of wood would be needed to build a block had to be decided in advance. The same activity had to be done by two more members where in the one building the block was blinded folded and the other had to guide him.

Third activity was a simple one in which each team were asked to tear a piece of paper but no instructions were given as to how to cut, they were also asked to do an object from a piece of paper. This was done to see the dedication of students to a particular task given to them and to know how much they heed to the words of their seniors.

In the last activity the students were given few questions which they had to answer. The answers were then compared to the qualities of leadership which were jotted down in the first activity.

Fr. Marcel Pinto ended his session with a power point presentation which portrayed the qualities of a good leader, dedication, team work etc.

The leadership qualities of Ignatius Loyola were very well portrayed by Rev. Fr. Francis Fernandes SJ in the second session that was conducted for the leaders. They were also been told about how they can keep Ignatius as their role model and imbibe his leadership qualities within them.
