The college organised an orientation day for the new joiners along with their parents in the auditorium on the 10th of June 2019. Orienation is a day wherein for the first time the students are in a new environment with new challenges. There are few days in human life when one is truly elated. The first day in college is one of them. Orientation day is our day to welcome new joiners to the SJC community. It's a day of their introduction to people, places and resources on campus that will make their college experience a success.

The program was hosted by Ms Jenisia Lasrado, Faculty - Department of Management and by Mr Range Gowda, Faculty - Department of Kannada.

"A beginner must look on himself as one setting out to make a garden for his Lord's pleasure, on most unfruitful soil which abounds in weeds. His Majesty roots up the weeds and will put in good plants instead. Let us reckon that this is already done when the soul decides to practice prayer and has begun to do so." To begin this academic year fruitfully the students of SJC Hassan, Ms. Varshith and team came forward and invoked God's blessings through a prayer dance.

The dignitaries then lit the lamp which was succeeded by the welcome speech delivered by Ms Veronica P, Faculty - Department of Commerce.

Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning. The faculty of SJC Hassan plays an important role in molding and shaping the lives of the students. Mr Pradeep Kumar, the HOD of Department of Management introduced the staff of SJC to the gathering through a power point presentation.

Mr Dinesh M Goankar then addressed the gathering regarding the facilities that the college provides, the code of conduct of the college and the various clubs and associations that are there in college in order to achieve the agenda of the college i.e academic excellence, character formation and social concern.

Rev Fr Roshan David Periera then spoke how the lives of the students would change in the next three years of their college life. The purpose of education is to transform an individual, if an individual cannot be a better person then there is no use of education at all were the words he quoted in his speech.

The chief guest of the program Rev Fr Felix, The administrator of Don Bosco Institute, Hassan then began his speech quoting "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself". Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Hence learning skills along with knowledge will enable our students not only to be seekers, but also job creators and emerge as global leaders.

When the roots are strong there is no need to fear the wind". "A tree with strong roots laughs at storms" St Joseph's College may be just a 10 year old child but it has evolved from stronger roots, i.e the Jesuit Congregation. Rev Fr Edward Phillip, Director of Navasadan gave a complete insight about the Jesuit Congregation. The program came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr Pradeep Kumar.
