At St Joseph’s College, Hassan, a Jesuit institution rooted in the tradition of forming men
and women for others, social concern remains at the heart of our education.
This year’s Social Outreach Program offered our students of NSS an enriching immersion
experience in Nelamangala and nearby villages, where they engaged with local
communities, interacted with people, conducted awareness programmes, working in fields
and brick factories, and reflected on the dignity of labour and rural life.

The celebration was a reminder of the timeless values of truth, non-violence, simplicity, discipline, and unity championed by these national icons. The inspirational words of Mahatma Gandhi — “Our greatest ability as humans is not to change the world, but to change ourselves” — and Lal Bahadur Shastri — “Discipline and united action are the real source of strength for the nation” — set the tone for the day’s reflection.
